English-Language Service

Kyodo distributes English-language news, known as Kyodo World Service (KWS), to Japanese and transnational media 24 hours a day on a real-time basis. Subscribers include the head offices and Tokyo bureaus of major newspapers, TV-radio stations and electronic news media in Asia, the United States and Europe. They use KWS mainly as a first-hand source of information on Japan and the rest of Asia. KWS is also sent to international organizations and Japanese diplomatic missions throughout the world.

KWS covers developments in Japan, the Asia-Pacific region, the U.S., Europe and other parts of the world.

KWS also provides news focus and analysis stories on major developments in Japan, the Asia-Pacific region and the U.S. in addition to a variety of feature stories.

In addition to reporters for the Japanese-language service, KWS deploys its own staff reporters to major government offices and markets in Tokyo. English-language reporters are also stationed at various bureaus, including New York, Washington D.C. and Beijing.

KWS also offers photos with English captions, some attached to news stories and some only on websites, using Kyodo's huge photo library as well as those taken exclusively by KWS staff reporters.

In addition to these news items, KWS offers audio podcasts of a wide range of stories reported by KWS reporters.
